Honda – Extended Protection Plans

Honda is known for reliability, long term ownership value, and efficient engineering across its sedan, SUV, truck, and hybrid lineup. Many Honda owners choose the brand for practical performance, fuel efficiency, and lower long term maintenance expectations.

The Honda lineup includes popular models such as the Civic, Accord, CR-V, HR-V, Pilot, Passport, Ridgeline, and hybrid variants. These vehicles are often driven well beyond factory warranty limits due to their reputation for durability.

What Is the Honda Factory Warranty?

Every new Honda includes factory warranty coverage designed to protect against defects in materials or workmanship.

Standard Honda factory warranty coverage includes:
New Vehicle Limited Warranty (Bumper to Bumper)
3 years or 36,000 miles (whichever comes first)
Covers most vehicle components for defects in materials or workmanship, including the 12 volt battery.

Powertrain Limited Warranty
5 years or 60,000 miles (whichever comes first)
Covers major drivetrain components including the engine, transmission, and drivetrain systems.

Rust Perforation Limited Warranty
5 years, unlimited miles
Protects against rust through corrosion on body panels.

Emissions Warranty
Covers federal emissions components. Additional coverage may apply for California registered vehicles under state specific requirements.

Roadside Assistance
Available 24 hours a day during the 3 year or 36,000 mile warranty period.

Replacement Parts Warranty
Genuine Honda replacement parts are typically covered for 1 year. Remanufactured parts may be covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles.

Exclusions
Wear and tear items such as brake pads, wiper blades, and tires are generally not covered. Damage caused by accidents, neglect, theft, or environmental factors is also excluded.

Once these coverage periods expire, repair costs become the owner’s responsibility.

What Happens When Honda Warranty Coverage Expires?

Many Honda vehicles remain on the road well beyond 100,000 miles. After factory warranty coverage ends, owners become responsible for repair costs, including mechanical and electronic component failures.

Common out of pocket repairs after warranty expiration may include:

  • Transmission repairs
  • Engine component repairs
  • Electronic module replacement
  • Air conditioning system repairs
  • Suspension component wear

Even reliable vehicles can experience unexpected repair costs as mileage increases.

Honda Repair Costs After Warranty (Common Examples)

Repair costs vary by model and driving conditions, but common out of warranty repair expenses may include:

  • Transmission repair or replacement: $3,000 to $6,000
  • Engine repair: $2,500 to $6,500
  • Electronic module replacement: $700 to $2,000
  • Air conditioning repair: $800 to $2,200
  • Suspension repairs: $600 to $1,800

Unexpected repair expenses are one reason many Honda owners consider continued mechanical protection.

Honda Extended Warranty Options

Honda offers manufacturer backed extended coverage programs that may extend certain protections beyond factory warranty limits. Availability and pricing vary based on vehicle eligibility.

Manufacturer extended warranties often:

  • must be purchased within defined eligibility windows
  • offer specific coverage term options
  • vary in cost depending on coverage level
  • may not be available once eligibility limits are exceeded

Some owners evaluate vehicle service contract options depending on vehicle age and mileage.
